🇬🇧 Welcome to the British Neuroscience Olympiad
Inspiring the Next Generation of Neuroscientists
The British Neuroscience Olympiad is the UK’s premier neuroscience competition for secondary school students aged 14–19. Our mission is to ignite curiosity about the human brain, mental health, and biomedical science — while offering students the chance to compete, connect, and grow.
Each year, students across the country dive into the fascinating world of the brain:
🧠 How do neurons communicate?
🧠 What causes brain disorders?
🧠 How can neuroscience help us better understand ourselves?
Through local and national competitions, the neuroscience olympiad challenges students to master topics in brain anatomy, function, disease, and diagnostics — using materials such as Brain Facts and real-world clinical case studies.

Why participate?
- Boost your scientific knowledge
- Gain exposure to neuroscience careers
- Meet likeminded students and scientists
- Win amazing prizes!
- Boost your UCAS application!
No prior experience needed — just curiosity, motivation, and a willingness to learn.
Whether you’re a student, teacher, school, or sponsor — we invite you to join us in shaping the future of brain science.

About the British Neuroscience Olympiad (BNO)
In 2016, Martyna Petrulyte—a University of Aberdeen graduate in Biomedical Sciences (Anatomy) and the founder of Biolympiads—established the British Neuroscience Olympiad, formerly known as the British Brain Bee competition, and since then, she has served as the national coordinator of the competition in the UK. The British Neuroscience Olympiad is organized by students, researchers, and science advocates dedicated to inspiring the next generation of neuroscientists.
